Dairy company, Clover SA says it is closing down its cheese processing plant in Lichtenburg due to a lack of service delivery by the Ditsobotla Municipality.

Clover CEO, Johann Vorster says they started evacuating the factory a few months ago.

More than 330 people will lose their jobs when the plant – the largest cheese factory in South Africa – finally closes its doors.

Vorster says the company have, for years, had to deal with constant water and power outages.

He says the plant will now be moved to Queensburg, in Durban, which will cost more than R 1.5-billion.

Vorster says the e-Thekwini Municipality encouraged Clover to invest there and helped facilitate the process.
