New developments relating to the disappearance and alleged rape of a nine-year-old girl in Hanover Park have emerged. The little girl was reported missing on Tuesday and found at the home of a 51-year-old man, a convicted rapist who was recently released on parole.
He has since been arrested and charged with allegedly kidnapping and raping the child. He was scheduled to appear in the dock on Thursday, however Western Cape Police confirm that new information has come to light, and that the suspect will now appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Friday instead.
“Kindly be advised that the suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ on Friday, 16 May 2025, due to new developments in the matter,” Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed.
Meanwhile, Civil rights organization Action Society added that it will be overseeing the matter.
It’s alleged the suspect reportedly lured the little girl to his premises by asking the girl to buy him milk, and to then bring this to his home.
The community was outraged when they heard what happened to this girl. We will stand by them. We have a serious problem in this country where parolees are being released back into communities, only to victimize more women and children,” said an aggrieved Kaylynn Palm who serves as the Head of Action Society’s Action Centre.
