The iconic Karate Kid franchise is set to return to cinemas with Karate Kid: Legends, uniting original stars Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan in an exciting new chapter.

The film, due for release in May next year, introduces a fresh face to the martial arts world. As with the previous films, it showcases a teen’s struggle to navigate life’s challenges in a different space, through discipline and perseverance.

A kung fu prodigy named Li Fong, is forced to move to New York City, where he befriends Mr Han, played by Jackie Chan. Han, then enlists the assistance of the original Karate Kid, Daniel LaRusso to teach Li how to blend kung fu with karate for the ultimate showdown.

Ralph Macchio returns to reprise his role as LaRusso, four decades since the debut of the cult classic.

And in case you needed a reminder of how exactly to wax that 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Convertible, here’s the orginal trailer for that movie.

The film remains a cultural milestone, extending its legacy through sequels including the 2010 remake starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan, and the highly successful spin-off series Cobra Kai.

Now, this latest instalment promises to honour the franchise’s rich history while spotlighting a new generation of martial arts talent.

Karate Kid: Legends will hit cinemas shy of 41 years after the original film, ensuring the franchise’s legacy continues to wax on.
