The family of Slade Van Der Walt, who disappeared at a beach in Strand last week, are not giving up on their search for him.

The family called on friends, community members and the public to take part in a search along the coastline between Strand and Hout Bay over the weekend, in a bid to find the 22-year-old.

This image has done the rounds on social media over the media, as the family appealed to the public to take part in the search for Van Der Walt.

He and a colleague were caught in rip currents while trying to save a friend in difficulty last Wednesday.

The body of the second victim, a 39-year-old man from Mfuleni, washed ashore the following day, prompting police to open an inquest docket.

But there’s still no sign of Van Der Walt.

The National Sea Rescue Institute’s Craig Lambinon confirmed to SmileFM on Monday morning that authorities are also still searching.

“Police divers are continuing in ongoing search efforts,” said Lambinon.

Van Der Walt’s partner, with whom he shares a daughter, recently took to social media to express her sadness over the incident.

“Life will never be the same💔 my best friend, the best dad in the world, my entire world. Sladey you are the love of my life and that’ll never change. I love you more than words could ever express. I pray God brings you back to me, I need to marry my best friend💔💔💔,” wrote Jordan-Lee Isaaks in a post caption.
