The Northern Cape has on Sunday recorded the highest number of new coronavirus cases in South Africa and is possibly experiencing a third wave, like the Free State.

The National Institute of Communicable Diseases says the most daily infections per population were, over the weekend, reported in the Northern Cape (349), Free State (294), North West (181), Gauteng (537) and Mpumalanga (96).
