Official data shows a rise in cases in kids aged between 10 and 19, which the National Institute for Communicable Diseases saying it can most likely be “explained by clusters reported from schools”. Clinicians and government officials have stressed that most children will only experience mild symptoms. The Department’s Dr Nicolas Crisp says no vaccine has yet been approved for children.
In recent weeks, the parents of two children in KwaZulu-Natal have claimed that their children have died of Covid-19. Medical experts have not yet confirmed this. It’s also unclear whether any of the children had comorbidities.
Crisp added there are several reasons why many people are not coming forward and getting the covid-19 jab. He says it’s everyone’s responsibility to counter fake news, which leads to vaccine- fear.
