Golden Arrow Bus Services (GABS) has been granted an interdict against strike action by the National Union for All Sectors (NUFAS).

GABS had approached the Labour Court on Wednesday after receiving a strike notice from NUFAS.

The strike action would have started at 00:00 on Thursday, 10 September 2026.

The Court order today means that the planned strike may not proceed and employees are required to report for duty in accordance with their normal rosters.

Passengers are advised that services will operate in accordance with the normal scheduled service, subject to any unforeseen operational circumstances.

Head of Corporate Affairs & Human Resources John Dammert says the company will continue to focus on maintaining safe, reliable and sustainable public transport services for the communities it serves.

“The company remains committed to engaging with organised labour through the appropriate processes and to resolving outstanding matters through constructive engagement.”

The issues raised by NUFAS relate, among other things, to the application of disciplinary processes. But Dammert says Golden Arrow does not accept the allegation that its procedures are applied unfairly.

“The company maintains that its policies are implemented in accordance with applicable labour legislation, collective agreements, established company procedures and the principles of procedural fairness.”

Dammert stresses that where an employee believes that disciplinary action has been unfairly applied, appropriate dispute-resolution mechanisms are available.

“Golden Arrow respects employees’ constitutional rights to participate in lawful and peaceful industrial action. At the same time, the company has a duty to protect its passengers, employees and the public and will take all reasonable steps to fulfil that responsibility.”
