This one is for the (serious) gamers! Or perhaps those up for some gaming whilst on a little getaway – given you have access to a decent Wi-Fi or Internet connection! Theunis Janse van Rensburg dropped by for our weekly Tech Tuesday chat, and he brought some really exciting news!
Mobile gaming has been growing in leaps and bounds over the years, with portable gaming consoles like the PSP, Nintendo Switch, and even smartphones flooding the market. But now, PlayStation hinted at a brand new device. They have dubbed it the Q-Lite.

But what makes this different? I mean there was the the PSP – basically a mobile PlayStation. Well yes, but you are required to buy games for it just like you would for your PlayStation at home. In short, users were caught up in a double-buying-of-games loop.
This raised a big issue: Why would you need to buy games for your PS at home AND your PSP? That just makes no sense at all. I mean now with online gaming pretty much being the norm.
Now here comes the exciting part. The Q-Lite pops up and hopes to solve this ‘double games buying’ issue.

Look at the Q-Lite as an “extender’ for your PlayStation at home. When you leave home, put your PS on sleep mode, and then via the Q-Lite, remotely turn on your PS at home. This allows you to then play the games that you installed on your PS on the go! This works on the Q-Lite given you have a good internet connection! I mean, this is the best news to hit the gaming scene in a while in my opinion!

Talking about a mobile gaming device. The Q-Lite doesn’t hold back when it comes to your gaming experience. Rumour has it, the Q-Lite will come with a huge 8-inch LCD touchscreen, which is definitely not a bad trade-off for playing your favourite games at home on your big screen.
We don’t know too much just yet and are still waiting for some concrete news from Sony. But the fact remains, if I can log on from anywhere in the world with the Q-Lite and play my favourite games installed on my console at home, I will be a happy chap!
