President Cyril Ramaphosa says the matter of Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize and the “disturbing” contract with Digital Vibes will not be swept under the carpet.

President Cyril Ramaphosa had a rare press conference at Parliament yesterday after responding to the debate on the Presidency’s budget vote. He says he will act once the Special Investigating Unit has finalised its investigation into the matter, which is expected by the end of this month.
Meanwhile, the Public Protector’s office says it will initiate contempt proceedings against the Health Minister following his failure to honour a subpoena. The Public Protector is investigating a complaint by Sanele Ngcobo, a clinical associate, who wants the national Department to implement the recommendations in the task team report. Dr Mkhize was subpoenaed to give evidence and produce documents in relation to the investigation, but he has not appeared before the protector.
