Nelson Mandela Day: A call to help feed the hungry

Published on

The Nelson Mandela Foundation has called on South Africans to help feed the hungry on Madiba’s birthday today, 18 July.

Mandela Day calls upon everyone to give 67 minutes of their time to make a difference in communities.

Various charities, including Ladles of Love and Chefs with Compassion have heeded the call.

Chefs with Compassion has roped in amateur chefs to reach a target of cooking 67 000 litres of soup which will be distributed to the needy.

The CEO of the Nelson Mandela Foundation Sello Hatang says food insecurity is a major concern.

He says the call is on people to plant fruit trees and help establish community vegetable gardens.
