Nelson Mandela Bay to face additional Covid-19 restrictions

Published on

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro has been declared a Covid-19 hotspot. Alcohol in the metro will only be sold from Monday to Thursday and the curfew goes back to 10pm-4am.

The NMB Metro is the only district to face these additional restrictions.

Ramaphosa says no drinking in public open spaces will be allowed in the Metro, including on beaches and in parks. This in an effort to avoid people gathering in large groups.

In addition, Ramaphosa says only a maximum of 100 people can gather indoors in the NMB metro, and 250 for outdoor events. He says all gatherings after funerals, the so-called ”after-tears-parties” have been banned…

He says it’s important to contain this surge in some districts, including the Garden Route, to prevent a massive countrywide second wave.

Meanwhile, The National State of Disaster has been extended to 15 January 2021, and lockdown Level 1 restrictions remain in place countrywide.

Ramaphosa says he has also instructed law enforcement officials countrywide to enforce compliance with the law. That means making sure all business owners and companies are mandating social distancing rules and the wearing of masks.
