The disaster relief organisation Gift of the Givers confirmed that it will be laying a formal criminal complaint, after one of its teams were accosted in Knysna on Sunday.

Three Gift of the Givers staffers were busy providing relief in Concordia by handing out water to residents when their vehicle was damaged by a member of the public. Their lives were threatened when one community member hurled a brick at their truck.

The organisation’s Knysna representative, Mario Ferreira explained what happened.

“As the truck was about to move forward, one of the people, one of the bystanders in the area picked up a brick and he basically jumped in front of this one vehicle and as the vehicle pulled away he threw the brick at the vehicle which damaged the vehicle,” Ferreira explained.

Fortunately, no injuries have been recorded. Ferreira added that he will be pursuing legal action.
