MEC Jaco Londt takes the reins following the departure of now-national government Minister David Maynier.
Londt moves to Education after serving as Social Development MEC since June 2024. The provincial government praised him for his achievements during his tenure, having expanded its GBV Ambassador Programme to 21 programmes across the province, launching the Cape Care Fund and implementing the Social Work Integrated Management System (SWIMS) app.
The DA’s provincial parliament spokesperson for Social Development, Wendy Kaizer-Philander, will fill Londt’s vacancy.
Kaizer-Philander’s career includes serving in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since 2018 and previously serving as a councillor and member of the mayoral committee in Drakenstein Local Municipality.

Kaizer-Philander and Londt were sworn in on Thursday.
Premier Alan Winde described both as experienced leaders with a strong commitment to public service.
“Both Ministers Londt and Kaizer-Philander bring extensive experience, principled leadership and a proven commitment to serving the residents of the Western Cape. Their new portfolios will allow them to build on their respective track records and bring fresh energy, insight and collaborative leadership to two critical areas of government,” Winde said in a statement.
Both newly appointed MECs thanked the Premier for his selection.
Londt said he looks forward to building on the foundation set by former Education MEC, David Maynier.
“The tremendous responsibility being entrusted to me by Premier Winde is not taken lightly,” said Londt.
Similarly, Kaizer-Philander said she looks forward to continuing Londt’s “excellent work” in the Social Development department.
“I am deeply passionate about supporting vulnerable communities, particularly children, families, women, older persons and communities facing social and economic challenges. I am ready to serve the people of the Western Cape in this critical position,” said Kaizer-Philander.
