As the summer season fast approaches, the City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks Department is ramping up efforts to ensure that beaches remain safe, clean, and welcoming for residents and visitors.
Last week, a beach clean-up was held at Maiden’s Cove, a scenic coastal spot nestled between the Blue Flag beaches of Clifton 4th and Camps Bay. The initiative forms part of the City’s broader campaign to prepare its coastline for the influx of beachgoers expected during the warmer months.
Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Francine Higham, says Cape Town’s beaches are among the most beautiful in the world and should be treated with care and respect.
“As the summer approaches, we are asking our residents to please work with us to keep our beaches clean. Please don’t drink on the beach, put your litter in the bins provided, and recycle where you can. Let’s all do our part to keep Cape Town clean.”
The City says it will continue to host beach clean-ups and awareness campaigns in the coming weeks to encourage responsible behaviour and protect the city’s natural coastal heritage.
