Motorists using Forest Drive in Eerste River are being warned to expect some delays as the City of Cape Town starts resurfacing work on the road.

The work starts tonight, 15 September, along Forest Drive between Van Riebeeck Road and Bobs Way and is expected to continue until 3 November, weather permitting.

The City confirmed that the roadworks will take place mainly at night, from 7pm until 5.30am, Monday to Saturday, with motorists being cautioned that some congestion can be expected while the work is underway.

The good news for people travelling during the morning rush is that all lanes are expected to reopen by 6am on weekdays.

Residents and businesses in the area should also be prepared for some noise during the night.

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, says the work is necessary to keep the road in good condition.

“Maintenance projects such as these prolong the longevity of our roads and form part of how we keep Cape Town moving over the long term.”

The project will involve removing the existing road surface and replacing it with new hot-mix asphalt. Damaged kerbs will also be replaced, while some drainage channels will be repaired and realigned where needed.

The City is advising motorists to consider alternative routes while construction is taking place and to be careful when driving near the roadworks.
