A 62-year-old Dutch tourist was rescued from Table Mountain on Wednesday after injuring her leg while hiking.

According to the Wilderness Search and Rescue, the woman was hiking along the mountain and got injured between the Upper Cable Station and Camps Bay on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the rescue team, the tourist spent the night stranded on the mountain due to her injuries.

A local guide then found the visiting group of four on Wednesday morning and immediately called the emergency number to assist the injured hiker.

Wilderness Search and Rescue teams helped the elderly hiker to a safe extraction point near the top of the Kasteelspoort trail, where she was safely hoisted into the Western Cape Government Health and Wellness / Air Mercy Service (AMS) rescue helicopter.
