We Don’t Talk About Bruno – Encanto

We Don’t Talk About Bruno is a unique take on the villain song. It focuses on other character’s perceptions of the villain – which ultimately turns out to be false. It’s charms comes from the multiple character lines in the piece and catchy upbeat nature.

Colors Of The Wind – Pocahontas

A loving and thought-provoking song about humanity’s relationship with nature. The near-poetic lyrics and music is by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz.

He’s a Tramp – Lady and the Tramp

Peggy Lee brings this jazzy piano bar-like song to life. Despite the lyrics of unrequited love, it’s so catchy you got to vibe with it.

Part of Your World – The Little Mermaid

This has arguably become one of the greatest pieces of movie music EVER! While I am a total fan of Halle Bailey’s rendition, Jodi Benson’s heartfelt performance and more subdued vocals makes Part of Your World all that more sweet and passionate.

How Far I’ll Go – Moana

How Far I’ll Go is the main character’s dreams and aspirations – exploring the world. This coming-of-age ballad truly embodies the youthful desire to fulfill big dreams and finding purpose in life.

The Bells Of Notre Dame – The Hunchback Of Notre Dame

It is only fitting that one of Disney’s darkest movies is fitted with a complex music score. The Bells Of Notre Dame acts as the film’s prologue, blending the story and character development with an elevated operatic music score.

Once Upon A Dream – Sleeping Beauty

It’s fairytale romance at its finest! This song, inspired by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s 1890 ballet Sleeping Beauty, is sweet and ethereal.

A Spoonful Of Sugar – Mary Poppins

A song containing advice for approaching difficult things. Every hard tasks needs to be met with rest or fun. Each drop of horrid-tasting medicine (looking at you, Turlington) can be swallowed down with a spoonful of sugar.

Friend Like Me – Aladdin

A big-band number that is drives the point that there is no friend quite like Genie. The high energy beat and blaring horns are fantastic, but pale in comparison to Robin Williams’ silly and equally stunning performance!

Be Our Guest – Beauty and the Beast

Disney showed off its Broadway-inspired sensibilities in Be Our Guest. It is a showstopper sequence that bursts with colour and sound.

When You Wish Upon a Star – Pinocchio

Performed during the opening credits, When You Wish Upon a Star serves as the movies main musical theme. It drives home the film’s primary themes of wishing and believing. It’s so iconic that it has become synonymous with Disney itself, with a shooting star seen over the company’s logo since the 80s.

Into the Unknown – Frozen II

What I appreciate most about Into the Unknown, is how it stands as its own entity. It is not a knock-off to it uber-successful predecessor Let It Go. Instead, it shocks and delights in its own way.

Remember Me – Coco

The 2017 film focuses on how families honour and love their dearly departed. There are different versions of Remember Me in the film: as a sweet lullaby, an upbeat mariachi and sentimental acoustic performance. No matter how different the versions are, they all send a message of love, remembrance and family.

Friends On the Other Side – The Princess and the Frog

Friends On the Other Side has an infectious jazzy tune, with creepy lyrics and visuals to match. Just like other Disney villain songs – it’s awesome!

I Won’t Say (I’m in Love) – Hercules

The recently heartbroken Meg, finds herself falling in love with Hercules despite her better judgement. I Won’t Say (I’m in Love) is a slow-tempo pop ballad of Meg’s brain fighting her heart. The best parts of the singing Muses who goad her throughout the piece.
