Celebrate with a cold (hard) drink
While they might not be Irish per se, Mitchells Scottish Ale House in the V&A Waterfront is the lucky place to be this Friday. They will be celebrating their Celtic cousins with live, themed entertainment, drinks and oyster specials.
Partygoers rejoice! Many pubs will have green-themed-drinks or food specials on St Patricks Day. The Beach Bar in Hout Bay will be making things extra special with Guinness on tap. Be sure to pop in for some live entertainment on Friday evening, too.
Create your own Shamrock Shake
The beloved green shake is back…only at selected fast food chains…not in Cape Town. But do not worry! This is for the people not in the mood to celebrate St Patricks Day in a packed pub or green-themed dinner.
Whip out your blender and these few ingredients and recreate the minty-green milkshake for yourself. Sharing with friends is optional! This will also save you the trip of flying to the US for a taste of the limited edition treat.
You will need:
- vanilla ice cream
- milk
- mint extract
- green food colouring
- whipped cream (topping)
How to make it:
- Into a blender, add the shake ingredients and blend until thick and well incorporated.
- Serve with whipped cream, optionally garnish with mint sprigs or green sprinkles.
Let us know how you liked it and if you will make it again.
Celebrate your favourite Irish Actors
Why not take this St Patricks Day as an opportunity to rewind and relax with some Irish beef stew, Shepard’s pie and your Shamrock Shake! Celebrate your favourite Irish Actors this weekend with a few of our recommendations:
Saoirse Ronan in Lady Bird. This 2017 coming-of-age comedy-drama movie is the solo directorial debut of Greta Gerwig. It tells the story of a high senior and her strained relationship with her mother. It stars the Irish actress in the title role, whose character also tries to navigate the ups and downs of her relationships – all while getting into college and becoming popular.
Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Day. The 2002 spy classic is the twentieth film in the James Bond series, and the final one starring the Irish actor as the fictional (dreamy) MI6 agent, James Bond. And who could possibly forget Halle Berry’s stunning performance as the Bond girl.
Michael Fassbender in Macbeth. An epic historical drama that is based on William Shakespeare’s play of the same name. Michael Fassbender stars in the title role, and Marion Cotillard accompanies him as Lady Macbeth. The 2015 story follows a Scottish lord’s (insane) rise to power after getting a prophecy from three witches that he will one day be King of Scotland.
