The 30th season of the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts is well underway, with about a handful of events scheduled until April 2. The annual show brings a star-studded line-up that is sure to get you dancing, swaying and singing to some lekker music.

Over the weekend, Irish singer Ronan Keating performed in South Africa – one of the many international shows you can enjoy during the Sunset Concerts. SA-based English singer-songwriter, Martin Gill, opened the show at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens on March 3. And Jo’burg pop artist, Lee Cole, performed as the support act at Keating’s concert in Pretoria, March 5.
During an interview with IOL Entertainment ahead of his concert, Keating says he is still as enthusiastic about touring as he first did 30 years ago:
I love touring probably more now than when I first started…The early days of Boyzone were very intense and I don’t think we had the time to sit back and take it all in…I can’t imagine ever losing the excitement I feel when I’m performing in front of a live audience
He jokes that the dance routines have ‘taken a back seat’ but adds that he loves the energy of a live concert, and the thrill of performing.

Classics blossom at the Kirstenbosch Sunset Concerts
This year, Classical music is featured in a stunning programme. The Cape Town Opera showcased a world-class operatic repertoire including the well-loved Easter Hymn from Cavalleria Rusticana and Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.
The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, the country’s oldest orchestra, presents a line-up of Tchaikovsky, Mozart and Dvorak Symphony No. 9 (“New World”). On the close of the concert (April 2), SA singer and composer, Msaki, will open the show for Ami Faku. Expect a performance full of indie vibes, amapiano melodies and afro-soul.
