The death toll has reached 75 201, after 189 new deaths were confirmed. So far, 8.8-million vaccinations have been administered.

The Department of Health says even though most of the country’s provinces seems to have passed the peak of the third wave of covid-19, vigilance is still needed to avoid a resurgence in new infections. The Department’s Deputy Director-General, Dr Anban Pillay says Limpopo, North-West, Mpumalanga and Gauteng have over the past two weeks shown, a gradual decline in their positivity rates. He warns, the Western Cape, Northern Cape and KZN continue to record high numbers of new cases.

in Cape Town, the mayoral committee member for asset management, James Vos, says the mass vaccination centre at Athlone Stadium, which opens in a few days, will have 40 stations to receive walk-in visitors. There will also be 5 lanes for drive-through visitors. The province’s first drive-through-covid-19-vaccination-site opens towards the end of the month, on the same site. Vos recently visited the stadium and says it’s ready to be handed over to the provincial government.
