Four suspects are due to appear in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court following their arrests on Monday, 7 September 2026, in connection with the hijacking of a woman’s vehicle at Cape Town International Airport.
The four males, aged between 16 and 27, were arrested by The South African Police Service (SAPS) Flying Squad members after the stolen vehicle was traced to Bonteheuwel.
SAPS says officers responded to reports of the hijacking at about 17:15.
“They rapidly intercepted the white VW Polo in Bonteheuwel and arrested the four male occupants for hijacking and possession of a stolen vehicle,” SAPS said.
Bonteheuwel Ward Councillor Angus McKenzie says the suspects are from the area.
“The suspects hijacked a female’s vehicle in the parkade of the airport and drove into Bonteheuwel. SAPS was able to trace the car as they took her cellphone but never turned it off. The four suspects are from the area.”
Cape Town International Airport says it understands that an incident of this nature can be unsettling for travellers and the public.
“We want to reassure our travellers and the public that the safety and security of everyone at our airport remains our priority. We thank SAPS and our security teams for their swift response and for working together to bring the situation under control.”
