Smooth sailing for the start of matric exams in the Western Cape

The National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams are off to a seamless start in the Western Cape. This is according to Western Cape Education MEC David Maynier, following the start of exams on Monday.

This year’s 882 336 candidates – 727 121 full-time and 155 215 part-time – are writing exams nationwide.

Close to 67 000, who sat for the English and Afrikaans papers on Monday, hailed from the Western Cape.

So far, no disruptions were reported in the province.

“The 2024 matric exams got off to a smooth start in the Western Cape, with nearly 67 000 candidates writing English Paper 3. This is a testament to the excellent preparation of our school staff and officials. It is a mammoth administrative task, and one that could not be accomplished without the support of our school communities and parents,” said Maynier.

Those who are doing Computer Applications Technology (CAT) as a subject will be conducting their practical exam on Tuesday. In the afternoon, learners will be putting their knowledge of some foreign languages to the test.

“Let’s all continue to make our matrics the VIPs of our province during the exams and support them in every way we can. Matrics will no doubt be relieved to have their first paper done and dusted, and we wish them all the best for the rest of the exams!” concluded Maynier.
