US President Donald Trump has lashed out after the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to South African jurist Navi Pillay, claiming he deserved the recognition for his efforts to end multiple wars.
In a lengthy social media post, Trump listed eight conflicts he claims to have settled, including those involving Israel and Iran, Pakistan and India, and Israel and Hamas.
“I settled 8 Wars, with letters being sent from every President and Prime Minister from the countries that I helped to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, and I’m about to settle, or win, two more, Iran and Russia/Ukraine. They’re both happening at breakneck speed but, forget them, it’s the 8 that I’ve already settled, any one of which, in particular, Pakistan and India, would be far more than necessary to win the Nobel Prize. In actuality, I should have won 8 Nobel Peace Prizes, not just 1.”
He also claimed credit for securing the release of hostages and political prisoners, and for strengthening NATO.
Trump criticised the Nobel Committee, describing the decision as a stain on Norway and claiming the prize had been discredited.
“The United States of America, represented by me, as your President, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn’t. This is an indelible stain on Norway, one that will never be forgotten. The Nobel “Peace” Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of Radical Ideologues who are Anti-Democracy, and Enemies of Civilization!”

The Nobel Peace Prize announcement came on Friday, with the committee recognising Pillay for her work towards a more comprehensive global legal order.
Shortly after the announcement, the US State Department announced sanctions against the International Criminal Court, a move world leaders and the UN have widely condemned. Pillay worked at the International Criminal Court (ICC), serving as a judge on the ICC Appeals Chamber from 2003 to 2008.
Last year’s winner, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, “gave” Trump her Nobel Prize, even though the Nobel Committee said the prize could never be conferred on another person.
