Published on

A Safety Alert has been issued as a Full Moon Spring Tide is expected today. The National Sea Rescue Institute has called on bathers, boaters, paddlers, sailors, shoreline anglers and coastal hikers to be cautious around the coastline.

Safety Alert: Full Moon Spring Tide

A spokesperson Craig Lambinon says the full moon Spring tide wil reach a peak today (Friday 15 November). It will cause high tides to be higher than normal. At the same time, it will lead to low tides that will be lower than normal. This can be expected throughout the weekend, as well as into the new week.

Stronger than normal sea currents

He added, that Spring tides could cause stronger than normal sea currents. This poses a potential hazard to bathers around the coast, especially during the outgoing tide. The call has been put out that all coastal bathers be cautious of coastal sea currents.

Wear your life jacket

Beachgoers have been asked to swim at beaches which are protected by lifeguards. At the same time, boaters, paddlers and sailors have also been asked to wear life jackets in their crafts.
