Stolen phones were recovered in a Metro Police Patrol Operation in Cape Town. Metro Police officers continue to prove that visible policing isn’t just about presence. It’s about performance.

Stolen Phones were Recovered in a Metro Police Patrol Operation

On Wednesday evening, during a routine patrol along Voortrekker Road, alert officers noticed a suspect attempting to flee upon seeing their patrol vehicle. Their quick thinking and decisive action led to a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against crime.

Law Enforcement Visibility Leads to Swift Arrest on Voortrekker Road

The officers managed to stop the fleeing vehicle and, with the driver’s consent, conducted a thorough search. What they found hidden inside the car was both telling and troubling:

  • 27 stolen cellular phones, individually wrapped in tinfoil in an apparent attempt to block GPS tracking

  • Cash amounting to R9,300, suspected to be linked to illicit activity

Crime-Fighting Success

The suspect was immediately arrested and has been charged with possession of suspected stolen property. He was handed over to the Maitland South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation and prosecution. This decisive arrest is a testament to the effectiveness of proactive, intelligence-led patrols.

Suspicious Behaviour Leads to Shocking Discovery

As our Metro Police unit grows, with newly trained officers stepping into their roles across every ward, this incident sets the tone for a renewed focus on vigilance, quick response, and community safety.

Suspect Arrested and Charged

A senior official reminded recruits of their duty:

“Build on the legacy of those who came before you, and lay a stronger foundation for those who will follow.”

He added that together, they are making the city safer – one arrest at a time.
