The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a safety recall affecting select Range Rover Evoque and Mercedes-Benz models sold in South Africa.

Range Rover Evoque Recall

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 2021 to 2024 models — and some 2025 models — of the Range Rover Evoque.

The recall stems from a defect in the passenger airbag, which may tear during deployment due to improper folding during assembly. This poses a serious risk, as it can reduce occupant protection in a crash and may cause burns if hot gases escape from the damaged airbag.

Mercedes-Benz Recall

Mercedes-Benz South Africa is also recalling multiple models manufactured in 2023, including the SL (232), EQS (297), GLC (254), S-Class (223), and C-Class (206).

The issue involves a potentially faulty fuse box that may not have been properly reworked. This defect could lead to sudden power loss, malfunctioning safety systems, or even increase the risk of fire.

What Consumers Should Do

The NCC urges all affected vehicle owners to immediately contact their nearest authorised dealership for a free repair.

“Affected consumers are urged to immediately contact any nearest authorised dealership of these motor vehicles to have the defect repaired at no charge,” said Acting Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu.
