SA Bone Marrow Registry joins hands with Netcells to boost access to cord-blood

Published on

The SA Bone Marrow Registry says it has joined hands with the largest and longest-established private blood-bank in Africa, to make cord-blood more readily available to those in need of a bone-marrow transplant.

Deputy Director at the SABMR, Jane Ward says the partnership with Netcells will see cord-blood, one of three sources of blood-forming cells, used in life-saving bone-marrow transplants.

Ward says cord-blood is a viable alternative to conventional bone marrow or stem cell trans-plants.
