Missing Gus Thompson’s body found

Published on

The Family of Gus Thompson shared a final update earlier today, sadly announcing that his body had been found, with no signs of any distress or injury.

Thompson, who had suffered from Alzheimer’s, resided at a care home near Lake Michelle, but left the home at 18:00 on Thursday 14 July.

He again appeared on CCTV footage, on foot, passing the Chapman’s Peak day-pass turning point two hours later.

Hundreds of volunteers worked day and night to try and locate Gus, but to no avail.

Earlier today a drone search located Gus’s body.

His family shares that he was found sitting peacefully near a stream below the picnic site on Chapman’s Peak, his favourite place in the world.

His family has asked that instead of flowers, if people can donate to Wilderness Search and Rescue, whose volunteers spent countless hours trying to locate Gus.
