Woodstock police are investigating a case of attempted murder following the stabbing of the owner of a well-known restaurant in the area.

According to police, the incident took place at about midday on Wednesday at the premises on Albert Road, Woodstock. According to reports, the victim is the owner of Casa Bar Restaurant.

Police captain FC Van Wyk says the 47-year-old man sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper body during the attack and was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Police say an adult male has been arrested in connection with the incident after he was identified through CCTV footage at the restaurant. The suspect is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 17 August, on a charge of attempted murder.

The GOOD Party has since condemned the attack, adding that businesses have for many years been sidelined when it comes to safety structures in the area.

In a statement, the party said that repeated safety strategies have failed to improve conditions for businesses and communities.

GOOD said many businesses in Salt River, Woodstock and Observatory have played an important role in uplifting local communities and described the victim as a “well-respected, likeable and warm person”.

“Businesses in this area must play a critical role in the co-creation of a safety plan. A top-down approach, blame shifting, and gatekeeping are clearly not working,” said Roscoe Palm, GOOD City of Cape Town Councillor

Palm said entrepreneurs deserve greater support and safety, and called for businesses to be included in the development of local safety plans.
