[LISTEN] Ferrari Luce: The EV Mistake giving Purists PTSD?

When you hear the word Ferrari, what hits you first? It’s a complete sensory overload. You immediately think of racing history, red paint, and the absolute peak of human aspiration.

As the legendary Enzo Ferrari once said:

Ask a child to draw a car, and certainly he will draw it red

It’s one of the few brands on Earth that completely transcends its actual product. People who don’t know a turbocharger from a tailpipe still care about Ferrari. We can thank pop culture and motorsport for that.

Lately, Maranello has been on a roll. Their lineup over the last five years brought us the Purosangue in 2023—a brutal four-door sports car (just don’t call it an SUV if you value your life). Then came the Roma, the Daytona SP3, the 12Cilindri, and the stunning 296 GTB.

We weren’t even mad at the creeping electrification in cars like the SF90 XX or the new F80 hypercar. Why? Because hybrid batteries meant one thing: terrifying amounts of extra power.

But then, they went full tilt. Enter the unceremonious introduction of the Ferrari Luce—the stuff of absolute purist nightmares.

Ferrari unveils 'Luce', its first fully electric car, in a tough market
The Ferrari Luce – also known in some circles as the Ferrari Voetsek [Daai Kant Toe].

It’s a 1,050-horsepower, five-seat EV liftback designed in collaboration with Apple’s former design guru, Jony Ive. It practically screams, “We’re jumping on the electric bandwagon, and because there’s a Prancing Horse on the nose, you’re forced to love it.”

Honestly? They pulled a Kurt Darren –  went straight from the beloved “Kaptein” to singing “67”!

Nobody was happy about the direction Apple, sorry, Ferrari were going and many shared their pure disgust at what Ferrari cooked up on The Joy Ride with Angel Campey.

Here are Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton unveiling what should’ve never seen the light of day.

Little Letino’s dreams in a challenging time

Reach for A Dream is an organisation that is very close our heart and they introduced us to another young dreamer today. Letino is 6 years old and has already been through so much after being diagnosed with a life threatening illness.
Letino is a very shy and reserved boy, often quiet in new environments, but once he feels comfortable, his sweet and friendly nature truly shines through.
We are grateful to Reach for A Dream, Toy Kingdom and BubbleGum Tablets for helping to give Letino an escape as he continues fighting to get better.
If you would like to provide your support to Reach for A Dream you can get involved with their annual Slipper Day fundraiser here.

Play Takes the Spotlight as City Libraries Mark World Play Day

Children were entertained by a clown at the launch.

The City’s libraries marked World Play Day, which is celebrated annually on 28 May, at Retreat Library this week, highlighting the importance of play in early childhood development while advocating for unstructured play as a key contributor to children’s cognitive, physical, and emotional growth.

The City currently runs Early Childhood Development (ECD) Resource Library programmes across 24 libraries, offering educational toys, guided play sessions, and learning resources for both formal and informal ECD centres.

Speaking at the launch, Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Francine Higham, said play is essential to a child’s development and future learning readiness.

“Play for young children is more than just keeping them occupied. It is an interactive learning experience that nurtures curiosity, resilience and early academic readiness. Educational toys are vital as they stimulate brain development, enhance problem-solving skills and support emotional growth.”

She added that libraries provide safe and inclusive spaces where children can learn through exploration and creativity.

“Libraries are safe, welcoming recreational spaces where every child belongs. Through storytelling, puppets, sensory play and themed activities, we create environments where learning feels joyful and curiosity is encouraged,” she said.

According to the City, nearly 10 000 children took part in 472 play-based sessions between July 2024 and June 2025, with participation rising to more than 11 000 between July 2025 and April 2026.

While the programme is budget dependent, the City says there are plans to expand it further. These include strengthening staff training, introducing basic coding concepts, and expanding inclusive and sensory learning resources.

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) confirmed that investigations are underway into allegations of corporal punishment involving two schools on the Cape Flats.

The department said it was made aware of the allegations via social media, where pictures are circulating of learners from Luhlaza Secondary School in Khayelitsha and New Eisleben High School in Crossroads with bruises and swollen hands, who were allegedly assaulted by teachers.

WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond stated that the allegations at Luhlaza Secondary were never reported to the school or the department.

“The alleged assault has never been reported to the school or the district by the learners concerned, nor by their parents. An investigation into the allegations is underway by the school, including the validity of the image concerned. The district is also engaging with the school to verify the claims, provide support and take further action, if required.”

Hammond further added that the alleged assault at New Eisleben High School is also under investigation.

“We are still waiting for feedback from the Metro South Education District regarding the New Eisleben allegation. The district is making enquiries with the school.”

The department stressed its zero-tolerance approach to any form of violence against learners.

“We take all allegations of assault against learners extremely seriously. Corporal punishment is illegal and strictly prohibited in all schools, and the department has a zero-tolerance approach to any form of physical or emotional abuse of learners.”
