WATCH: RAINBOWS OF HOPE AT THE CTICC HOSPITAL OF HOPE

Published on

The artwork of almost 400 learners from Rallim Preparatory School in Tableview will be making the recovery of patients at the CTICC Hospital of Hope a bit brighter after they painted rainbows which has been placed above each of the 862 beds at the facility.

The facility officially came online on Friday and received it’s first 10 patients on Monday. The idea to paint rainbows was that of one the parents, Nicola Lochner.

She wanted to do something to brighten up the quarantine hospitals after watching a documentary about the Ebola outbreak and how people there, said they suffered alone with nothing to inspire them, in make-shift medical facilities that lacked any signs of warmth or colour.

She wondered how she could make a difference to Covid-19 patients experiencing the same after seeing what the inside of these quarantine facilities looked like.

Nicola first approached Joy McCarthy, the Ward Councillor for the Table View, Sunningdale area to see if it was a possibility who put her in touch with Ulrika Kuschke, Chief Architect/Manager Architectural Services at Western Cape Government – who both loved the idea.

Nicola then approached Rallim to make it happen, before the first patients arrived. Rallim jumped on board and turned Nicola’s idea around in just 6 days – from design, to printing, laminating to installation.
