WC Police bolster visibility after 11 murders overnight

Western Cape police have bolstered visibility in Langa, Gugulethu and Khayelitsha after 11 people were shot and killed in these areas on Saturday night and in the early hours of Sunday morning.

 

In the first incident, in Langa, four men and a woman were shot dead at a house in Winnie Mandela Street in Phase 3 at approximately 22:45.

 

Shortly thereafter, at about 22:50, three men were killed in TR Section in Lingelethu West in Khayelitsha.

 

In another incident that occurred in the Barcelona informal settlement in Gugulethu, two men and a woman were also shot dead at 4:10 this morning. Two other victims sustained injuries from the shooting.

 

Western Cape police have reinforced deployments in the affected areas as well as other potential hotspots.

 

The motive for the shooting incidents is not yet known.

 

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Sizakhele Dyantyi and his management team are visiting the affected communities to strengthen investigations and oversee deployments in the areas.

 

No arrests have been made.
