Wall of Remembrance to be erected in District Six

Published on

The City’s Directorate of Spatial Planning, says a Wall of Remembrance will be erected in District 6 to commemorate and celebrate the history and residents of the community. The wall will be built from fragments of former residents’ belongings destroyed during the forced evictions and bulldozing of properties, 54 years ago, by the Apartheid government. Mayoral committee member for the Directorate, Marian Nieuwoudt, says the fragments will be salvaged during the clean-up process to commence in the neighborhood soon. The clean-up forms part of the recently-announced R1.5 billion redevelopment plan, to take place in District 6 over the next 3 years.
