Residents across Cape Town are urged to prepare for temporary water supply disruptions as the City undertakes maintenance work on its water infrastructure.
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate said the work includes pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements, with several neighbourhoods expected to experience water outages or reduced pressure.
On Tuesday, 13 October, water supply will be temporarily unavailable in parts of Fish Hoek from 08:00 to 20:00 for pipeline replacement work, while Dennemere in Blackheath and parts of Strand will be affected from 09:00 to 18:00 as teams connect new infrastructure.
- Affected locations in Fish Hoek: Nelson Road, 17th Avenue, Paris Road, Kinross Crescent, 13th Avenue and possibly surrounding roads
- Affected locations in Strand: parts of Broadlands Road, from the vicinity of the Strandfoam Group (Pty) Ltd to the N2, Lwandle Helderberg Industrial, and possibly surrounding streets
On Wednesday, 14 October, supply will be interrupted to Sixth Avenue (from Dieman Road to Italian Road, Iris Road from Iris Close to Italian Road, and possibly surrounding streets) in Grassy Park from 08:00 to 19:00.
On Thursday, 15 October, Protea Valley, Van Riebeeckshof and Door De Kraal will experience an outage from 10:00 to 18:00. Kenilworth, Claremont and Lansdowne will also be affected that day from 09:00 to 17:00, with residents warned of low pressure or no water.
“This critical maintenance work is being done on our water supply infrastructure to benefit customers,” read the City’s statement.
Other maintenance work is being carried out at the Voëlvlei Water Treatment Plant, which is anticipated to put strain on the City’s bulk water storage.
Residents and businesses across the metro are therefore urged to reduce consumption during this period, as well as to “store enough water in advance in clean, sealed containers” and keep taps closed to prevent water loss when supply is restored.
