Western Cape Police have confirmed that the body of an adult man has been found on Table Mountain by members of SAPS and Wilderness Search and Rescue Teams on Thursday. This comes after a search was launched for a 46-year-old man who went missing while hiking on Table Mountain on Wednesday.
According to police, a missing person’s case was registered on Wednesday at Cape Town Central SAPS following reports of the disappearance of the 46-year-old, identified as Wayne Barnard. Police Captain F.C. van Wyk says members of SAPS and Wilderness Search and Rescue were activated to search for him on Table Mountain.
According to Missing Person South Africa, Wayne Barnard last made contact at about 11:05 on Wednesday morning, when he shared his location and a photograph from Table Mountain.
His phone has since been switched off or is unreachable, prompting an urgent appeal for information from his family and authorities.
Van Wyk added that while it is believed that the body located and recovered is that of Barnard, formal identification by family is in progress in cooperation with police. An inquest was registered, and a postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
