The City of Cape Town says waste and recycling collections will continue over the festive season, including public holidays on 16 and 25 December, 26 December, and 1 January 2026.

The City encourages residents to put out their bins early and leave them out until 21:00. If  bins are not collected, report the issue after 48 hours.

Alderman Grant Twigg, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, reminds everyone to avoid illegal dumping and to use bins provided at beaches, parks, and other public spaces.

“As we enjoy the festive season together, we urge residents to look after our neighbourhoods and shared spaces. When you visit our beaches, parks or other recreational areas, please make use of the Bingo bins provided and help us keep Cape Town clean.”

Twigg has reiterated that residents are not required to give cash or Christmas boxes to City waste staff or contractors. Any staff caught asking for donations will be investigated.

“To investigate such a report, we will need at least the vehicle registration number and the date and time of the incident. Be cautious of opportunists pretending to be waste collectors and report any suspicious activity to the police.”

For any waste collection issues, residents can log requests online at the City’s website, via the City App, email wastewise@capetown.gov.za, or call 0860 103 089.
