For some motorists, ignoring those unpaid traffic fines came back to haunt them, quite literally at their front doors.

Traffic Services officers carried out a warrant operation across the city on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, executing 160 outstanding warrants at 54 homes.

According to Traffic Services spokesperson Kevin Jacobs, the operation is part of ongoing efforts to ensure motorists face the consequences of traffic offences.

“We execute, on average, more than 96 000 warrants each year. The latest operation saw 16 people arrested, while another 39 were released on warning.”

Jacobs says some motorists settled their outstanding matters during the operation.

“Suspects finalised outstanding warrants to the value of R110 000 at the department’s mobile payment centre.”

Jacobs stressed that motorists with outstanding warrants could find themselves unable to renew their driving licences or vehicle licences.

“Persons with outstanding warrants are also unable to conduct certain transactions on the National Traffic Information (NaTIS) system.”
