Stone fruit from South Africa could soon be winging its way to China. This follows the securing of production protocols with China for five stone fruit products. These products are apricots, peaches, nectarines, plums and prunes.
South African stone fruit could soon be winging its way to China
The Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen says this marks the first time that South Africa has negotiated more than one production agreement with China. This opens the door to a massive export market as well as lots of new opportunities for farmers.

Fruits: More than one production agreement with China
This is in light of the 30% US tariffs recently imposed on goods exported from South Africa to the United States, and the government’s efforts to diversify its export products by seeking new markets.

Seeking new markets
At the same time, the Minister said that China is a big market with a massive population. He also added that they hope to conclude the protocol on the sidelines of the Agriculture G-20 next month. This will open the way for stone fruit from South Africa to be exported to China.
