Hundreds of informal dwellings were affected by the heavy rain, lashing the Mother City. The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre says officials from the city are still busy with assessments this morning.

Hundreds of informal dwellings have been affected by the recent heavy rains

Spokesperson Charlotte Powell says additionally, roads have been flooded. There was also a report of a rockfall on Victoria Road in Camps Bay. She has released a list of affected areas:

Informal dwellings affected by the heavy downpours

– Burundi in Mfuleni: 112 structures affected, impacting 119 persons. SASSA is providing soft relief.
– 100 dwellings affected in Zola Informal Settlement and Oliver Tambo
– 200 dwellings in Sweet Home Farms
– 200 dwellings each in The Ark, Khayelitsha and Island in Makhaza

Possible sinkhole

Cape Town Traffic this morning said, that all lanes are open on the N1. This follows reports yesterday of a sinkhole forming on the N1 outbound before the Old Oak bridge. The left and centre lanes were affected and closed until further notice, but subsequently, all lanes were later re-opened.
