The incident apparently happened near to the Gordons Bay Battery. This is near to Rocky Bay, between Gordons Bay and the Steenbras River Mouth. NSRI-Spokesperson Craig Lambinon says various rescue organisations and entities were called in to assist and try and find a 43-year-old-man from Blue Downs.

Search commenced for the missing fisherman

Lambinon says NSRI Gordons Bay duty crew responded to the NSRI Gordons Bay station 9 rescue base. That’s where the NSRI rescue craft Spirit of Surfski was launched. He says an NSRI rescue vehicle, NSRI rescue swimmers, the SA Police Services, WC Government Health EMS and an EMS rescue squad, ER24 ambulance services and Cape Town Traffic Services responded.
