Inclement weather: Eskom warns of delays in repairs in Cape Town

Published on

Eskom has urged South Africans to remain patient as severe weather conditions are expected to impact electricity restoration efforts across parts of the Western Cape in the coming days.

This follows a Level 4 weather warning issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS), with disruptive rainfall forecast between Thursday, 3 July, and Sunday, 6 July 2025. Eskom has said the adverse conditions could significantly delay fault response times and complicate ongoing restoration work.

The power utility confirmed that its technicians are preparing to operate under “challenging and potentially hazardous” circumstances, and it warned that progress may be slower than usual during this period.

Customers are therefore advised to expect delays in the resolution of electricity faults and to exercise caution around electrical appliances, treating them as live until power is fully restored.

Eskom is currently managing a backlog of unplanned outages, with several areas particularly hard hit. Affected communities include Bloekombos, Blue Downs, Delft, Dunoon, Eerste River, Khayelitsha, Phillippi, Uitsig, and Wallacedene.

Residents are encouraged to log faults using the MyEskom Customer App, or via the Alfred Chatbot on Eskom’s official website. These digital tools provide users with a reference number to track their fault status.

Alternatively, customers may now contact Eskom via WhatsApp on 08600 37566 to report outages.

Eskom has reiterated its commitment to restoring power as swiftly and safely as possible but emphasised that the safety of its personnel remains a priority under the forecasted extreme weather conditions.
