Banyana Banyana goalkeeper, Regirl Ngobeni has despite a busy schedule, managed to complete her Bachelor of Education degree. The University of the Western Cape football star yesterday joined hundreds of students, who graduated from their respective courses.
Ngobeni says: “It’s never been an issue for me, to balance sport with academics. I have always been a top performer in class while playing soccer.”
She added: “I’m presented with new challenges every day, but I always find ways to deal with them. I won’t lose focus when it comes to balancing my education and soccer responsibilities.”
Ngobeni has represented South Africa at both Under 17 and Under 20 levels. She was called up to Banyana Banyana, last year.
To top it all, Riri, as she is known in football circles, has also been a top performer on the field of play. Her heroics were rewarded last weekend when she won the Best Goalkeeper of the Season award at the HollywoodBets Super League annual awards ceremony.
Ngobeni was also pivotal in helping the UWC Women’s Football team finish third in the league last season. The university team was one of the top 10 best women’s teams on the continent.
