The South African music scene is buzzing and blessed with an abundance of young talent.

Thanks to social media platforms like TikTok as well as the metaphorical doors opened by streaming services, local artists are able to share their music to a global audience and find success in new ways in a much shorter time than the previous traditional route.

Our local artists are producing music that can easily rival their international counterparts and they still need and appreciate support from local audiences.

 

One way of discovering new South African musos is listening to the SA Music Hour from 8–9pm Monday to Thursday.

Alt pop powerhouse CeCe Vee is a Cape Town based artist who is also a SAMA 2023 Artist of the Year nominee. Her music was used in an episode of the US TV series Good Trouble and she’s building great momentum on her success. With her incredible lyricism and international appeal, CeCe Vee is one to watch.

 This artist from Pretoria quickly caught international attention with her single You’re The One which has almost 9.5 million streams on Spotify, and 10 million streams on YouTube. Her sound is a fusion of R&B with touches of trap soul, creating a moody and warm atmosphere. Her 2019 EP called “Elements” is definitely worth a listen.

Identical twins Kyle and Wade Saxby launched a music career while completing their university studies in Stellenbosch. They completed a successful national tour alongside Canadian duo Neon Dreams and continue to explore their artistry with catchy singles. Thanks to the popularity of their single (I Think I’m) Falling For You on TikTok in 2020, they landed a record deal with Universal Music Group.

 

 

Naomi Grace

Naomi Grace is a star on the rise. She’s performed alongside Ross Learmonth, Jesse Clegg and Majozi already. And she only has three singles out! Her songs <3break and thursday were quickly added to rotation on radio stations around South Africa, including Smile FM. It’s a testament to both Naomi’s songwriting talent as well as the genius of producer, Denholm Harding.
