Woolworths has issued a warning to customers about a growing number of online scams falsely claiming to sell boxes of Woolies products at heavily discounted prices.

The retailer says scammers are circulating posts on social media featuring doctored Woolworths branding, fake promotions and fabricated customer comments to create the impression of a legitimate offer.

According to Woolworths, the scam typically starts with a link to an online “survey” and ends with a request for users to enter their bank card details. The URL also reportedly redirects to different websites with each click, a common tactic used to avoid detection.

“These posts often include fake ‘happy customer’ comments claiming they’ve received their boxes, which is designed to build trust and lure more people into the scam,” the company said.

Woolworths has urged customers to remain vigilant when shopping online and to verify any promotions directly with the retailer before clicking on links or sharing personal information.

“As always, we encourage customers to reach out to us directly if they are unsure about the validity of a promotion,” the retailer said. “We are here to help.”

The company also reminded shoppers that Woolworths operates only one official website: www.woolworths.co.za, and any offers outside of this platform should be treated with caution.

Consumers who believe they may have fallen victim to the scam are advised to contact their bank immediately and report the incident to Woolworths and the relevant authorities.
