Calling all gaming and pop culture fans! Soon, arguably one of the most epic events of the year will take place at the CTICC, Comic Con Cape Town. With just a few weeks left until D-Day, here are some details on the competitions, features and special guests you can expect at the festival.
Comic Con Cape Town is set to take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from Thursday, April 27 to Sunday, April 30. The tens of thousands of attendees will be thrilled with the numerous activations that includes a cosplay competition, gaming tournaments and the largest artist alley in Southern Africa.
And not forgetting these four celebs attending the festival:
David Oakes. The English actor is best known for his roles in Vikings: Valhalla, Victoria and The White Queen.
Kat Graham. The American actress and dancer is widely known for her role in CW’s The Vampire Diaries and Honey 2.
Tati Gabrielle. The American actress is best known for her roles as Prudence in Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and as Marienne in Netflix’s You.
Ross Marquand. He is best know for his role as Aaron in The Walking Dead. He also played Red Skull and Ultron in various Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.

The eye-catching Main Stage
This is the heart of the Con. Here fans can interact with guest celebs, watch cosplay competitions and even enjoy a little partying alongside MC, DJ Elliot. Do not miss the opening ceremony on Thursday where the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre will delight crowds with their rendition of the music from Star Wars.
Something of a gaming haven
Competitive professionals and casual players alike will set their thumbs ablaze at Comic Con Cape Town. Thousands of rands are up for grabs, and more merch than you can imagine, will be available at the stalls.
The Con is a renowned haven for gamers looking to test their mettle and expand their collections with some sweet gaming deals.
Attendees should keep their eyes peeled for the Telkom V Gaming experience. The Doritos Crunch Cup with a R10,000 daily prize up for grabs. The Red Bull Hattrick with a 3-on-3 team format, which will see regional university teams qualify for nationals at Comic Con Cape Town.

Comic Con is home to cosplay
It would not be a Comic Con without a cosplay experience. From store-bought t-shirts to moving robotic parts, we are sure to see casuals and pros dress up for the event. Speaking of pros, applying is essential and some stunning prizes are up for the win. The Comic Con Cape Town Regional Championships of Cosplay is sponsored by Brother Sewing and has four categories:
- Champion of Armour
- Masters Champion
- Champion of Needlework
- Regional Champion (WINNER)
Mega-video game publisher, Ubisoft, is offering a R20,000 prize for an attendee dressed as a character from a Ubisoft title.
Paint the festival at the Artist Alley
At the Con this year will highlight the work of some local artists who worked on major comic books like Marvel and DC Comics. This includes the likes of Karl Mostert, Warren Louw and Sean Izaakse.
Expect live drawing sessions, and interviews with local and international comic book artists, like American artists Afua Richardson and Mark Brooks. British artist Ian Churchill will also be attending.
