Western Cape Police confiscated abalone of over R3-million, hidden in a truck. At the same time, two people were arrested. A Police spokesperson, says an intelligence driven operation was carried out on Monday afternoon, 22 September 2025.

 

Police have confiscated abalone hidden in a truck

 

Members of the Breederiver K9 Unit as well as officials from Sea Fisheries were involved. This led to the seizure of abalone in Rawsonville. Sergeant Wesley Twigg says officers had gathered information about a truck that was transporting perlemoen and that was en route to Cape Town. Subsequently, members stopped the truck at the weighbridge on the N1 at Rawsonville and carried out a search.

The perlemoen has a street value of over R3-million

 

They found 13 341 units abalone with an estimated street value of R3,3 million. Twigg says an adult male and female were taken into custody. They face a charge of the possession of abalone. He says once they are charged with the crime, they’ll make a court appearance. This will be in the Worcester Magistrates’ court.
