Walking from Cape Town to Cairo

Walking from Cape Town to Cairo

An American author and former teacher, Brian Stupek is walking from Cape Town to Cairo. That epic walk starts today. This is to raise awareness about mental health issues.

Walking from Cape Town to Cairo

Stupek, himself is a bipolar sufferer. He arrived in the Mother City a few days ago to prepare for his big adventure. He says this will be his first solo walk across the African continent.

Stupeck says, “Walking has been a way that I have found peace in my life. Where I’ve been manic, I’ve walked to calm myself down. This is pre-diagnosis before I knew what I was dealing with.”

He plans to leave on Wednesday and will walk toward Bloubergstrand.

Plans to walk 6 to 7 hours a day

Stupek has invited locals to chat with him on his walking adventures.

“When I was depressed, I would walk and it would bring me up a little bit,” he added.

He is a big fan of being outdoors, in nature. He likes to meet people along his travels, to the places he ventures to.

The linguist is a big advocate for mental health as he’s suffering from bipolar disorder.

He loves cultural experiences

You can follow his journey on Instagram under his name. He will also podcast his journey on the bri-polar show on YouTube.

“I’m Brian and I’m bipolar. It’s the Bri-Polar Show on Youtube and it will be on Spotify soon, once I get a couple of episodes out,” he added.

When he gets to a town, city or village he finds out if there’s someone who will talk to him and if they are open to doing an interview.

I’m Brian and I’m bi-polar. It’s the Bri-Polar Show

If people are open to being interviewed by him, he will go with them to a place that is comfortable for them. There he will ask them questions about their lives and host it on his platforms.

He says he will see if they will host him and offer him a cultural experience and if people aren’t up for that, he can always fall back on his tent.
