W.H.O.: A lot of progress made with Covid-19 vaccine

The World Health Organization says the Access to Covid-19 Tools Accelerator has, over the past few months, made a lot of progress, to deliver a safe and effective covid-19 vaccine.

The accelerator is aimed at speeding up the development of a vaccine, that will be distributed to all participating countries across the globe.

The Director-General of the WHO, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, says there are currently 200 vaccines in different stages of development.

He says of the 38 possible vaccines that are now being tested on humans, eight are in their phase-3 trials.

Western Cape Police arrested an 18-year old suspect in Bishop Lavis for being in possession of drugs. Police received a tip-off about a premises in Bramble Way, in Bonteheuwel, and upon inspection, found 200 bags of tik, several mandrax tablets, almost 200 dagga cigarettes, and a large amount of dagga. The Western Cape Department of Health says new covid-19 infections, deaths and hospitalizations continue to decline in the province. The Department says there are currently 524 patients admitted in both the public and private sector facilities. Of these, 106 patients are in ICU or High Care.
