Cape Town road users are not shying away from venting their frustrations amid the current fuel shortage in parts of the metro.

Motorists in Long Beach, Claremont, Plumstead, Mitchell’s Plain and other parts have been affected. The scarcity is because of an unforeseen outage at the Astron refinery in Milnerton. The situation has caused exasperation and longer travel times for many.

BP, Shell and Engen are experiencing shortages of Unleaded Petrol 95 (ULP 95).

Trevor Solomons is a scholar transport and Bolt cab driver, who hails from Retreat. He said the situation has left him upset, as he had to drive to several fuel service stations before he was able to fill up on petrol on Tuesday:

“I am really upset, because I am driving for Bolt at the moment, and I was at the Shell garage (fuel service station) at Long Beach Mall. All the garages over there did not have any fuel. I had to drive from Long Beach to Simon’s Town to get fuel,” said Solomons.

During his search for fuel, the 61-year-old driver missed trip bookings, which has affected his livelihood.

In a video that seen by more than 19 000 viewers, a content creator took to the social media platform TikTok to question what has been happening. Shalvin Joubert sought answers.
