Grassy Park police have registered a robbery with a firearm case for investigation following an incident on Saturday night, 25 April, in which an e-hailing driver was robbed of his personal belongings. A video of the incident has since gone viral.

According to police, the driver responded to a pick-up request in Pers Road, Parkwood. When he arrived at the address, two men got into the vehicle.

After driving for a while, one of the suspects, sitting in the backseat, takes out a firearm, pointing it at the driver’s back and neck.

The other suspect, seated in the front passenger seat, then proceeds to rob the driver, who stays calm throughout the ordeal, pleading with the suspect not to shoot him.

The suspects then fled the scene. According to some reports, the two suspects are known to the community.

Police confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that two suspects, aged 20 and 28, were arrested for the robbery and will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court once they have been charged.

Smile FM has blurred the faces of the suspects, as under South African law, it is illegal to publish photos or identifying information of suspects before they have been formally charged and appeared in court.
